Replacing Proliant 8500

I'm looking to replace an old Proliant 8500. It has 8 Xeon processors at 700MHz. I'm only doing this because of the annual service contract cost. Average CPU utilization is less than 20%. Can I replace this with a 2-way server running at 3.4GHz and get equal or better performance? I'm considering the DL380 G4.

Re: Replacing Proliant 8500

Whats applications are running on the PL8500?

What is the EXACT configuration of the PL8500 (CPU, Memory, Disk Controllers and Disks, Network Cards etc)

If you have an application that does not need a lot of disk IO then there is a possibility that the PL8500 is overkill and a dual CPU DL380 might be able to replace it.

Re: Replacing Proliant 8500

Server has 4 GB of memory and a 5300 controller with an external array. It is a dev/test database server. We already ordered the DL380-G4 with dual-processors at 3.6 GHz and the same amount of memory. We think this will be sufficient. Thanks.
