SolutionIs your new drive failing after becoming optimal?? Or while rebuilding is it failing??
This could be your cage slot problem also.
You can try to add your new drive as a hot spare on a different cage slot.
There is absolutely no problem in using a 15krpm disk instead of 10krpm.
And no need to remove the failed disk logically from the array.
You can use the replace failed drive option of storage manager.

Problem Fixed! Cleaned out storage array cage and reseated the drive into the same slot. Drive came up, and started rebuilding.
