Replacing dual core with quads core CPUs in a HP DL585 G2
I will be replacing the 4 CPUs in a very important server this weekend and am just posting this to see if anyone has any "gotya's" that I need to be aware of.
The server is a HP Proliant DL585 G2 with 4 x Dual core AMD Opterons (AMD Opteron(TM) Processor Family 2.8 GHz (x86 Family 15 Model 1 Stepping 3). The Operating system is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (SP2).
Server BIOS has been updated to Version 2008.09.27 which has support for the quad core CPUs. (Added support for Third Generation AMD Opteron 8300-series Quad-Core Processors.)
The new CPUs that I purchased are AMD Third-Generation Opteron 8354 / 2.2 GHz processor Mfg. Part: 448192-B21
I also have the 453059-B21 - HP VRM Kit Voltage Regulator Modules.
I really think I am in good shape but just checking if I have missed anything.
Anyone any advise?
Thank you
dMb

hi
I see you are in good shape like you say.
You got the Procs, you got the VRMs (usually this is forgotten) and System ROM has been updated.
good to go :)
