S.M.A.R.T. pre-fault error
On my proliant G6 I had on 2 HD (in different times) a S.M.A.R.T. pre-fault error. The Saart Array mark my HD and my RAID 5 Logical Drive with a yellow dot.
My questio is:
The pre-fault is a "prevision" of a future hardware error, but now the HD works well, so the server is still using it or the hd stop to work? I try to esplain (in english for me is a little difficult) - If in a RAID 5 with 4 disk I have a drive in pre-fault, and another drive crash, I lost my data or the pre-fault is still working? Have I to consider a pre-fault drive a dead drive or I can sill use it until it dies rally?
Thanks
Grazie mille

Re: S.M.A.R.T. pre-fault error
Yes you can consider pre-fault drive a dead drive and you need to replace it ASAP
