SA6404 and MSA20 batteries.

I have a Proliant DL380 G2 w/SA6404 connecting a MSA20 shelf. A couple of weeks ago I was notified of battery failed. Looking in ACU the MSA20 was indicating battery failed and SA6404 battery failed. Ordered replacements, and installed. The ADU shows battery installed, but cache is still disabled due to low voltage. After 3 daye there is still no change. Could the batteries be too low for the charging ckt to operate? This is showing on both MSA20 and SA6404. Thanks,

Louis

Hey,

what firmware are you running on the sa6404 and the MSA20? I believe there are firmware upgrades that help with battery problems.

Yes, see the fix in 2.08

If you're on a good firmware, maybe a power cycle is needed :/

Re: SA6404 and MSA20 batteries.

Do you have a lot of load on the disks?

I don't remember anymore how long it takes but 3 days seems a bit excessive to me.

Re: SA6404 and MSA20 batteries.

The manual for MSA20 (2004 vintage) indicates 45 minutes for batteries to charge. It can take as much as 5 days to charge (90%) in BL45P. I don't know...I'll check F/W first, then work back from there.

Re: SA6404 and MSA20 batteries.

Wich battaery did you replace?

Both the SA6400 and the MSA20 got 2 batteries each.

Lets take the MSA20 first.
It got a display on the back.
F1 = Lower Battery. 349799-001
F2 = Upper Battery. 307132-001
F3 = Both
Battery 0 = lower. (is on the cache module).
Battery 1 = upper. (is abaove the Cache module).
You can connect to the seraial port on back of the I/O module (See maintanance manual for details)
Show batteries (Show battery health)
Show Cache (Show cache state)
Turn off batteries (Recommended to do so before replacement).

349799-001 is usable for all 4 batteries.

The 6400, I don't have that much information, you might be able to see wivh battery has failed in the ADU, or through the system management homepage.
