SAS HBA Prohibits use of Embedded SATA??

We have a Proliant ML150 G3 with the HP 8 Internal Port SAS Host Bus Adapter with RAID. Windows Server 2003 is installed on RAID1 array on this controller. I'm trying to use the on board SATA controller to add an additional drive and although the BIOS recognizes the drive Windows does not.

HP Tech Support was less than useful telling me that once the SAS HBA controller is plugged into the ML150 G3 it renders the on board SATA ports useless. This sounds a bit odd to me as the BIOS notes the drive and continues without error.

Any help in this area would be appreciated.

Re: SAS HBA Prohibits use of Embedded SATA??

From what I recall from setting up other ML150 G3's the driver is:

CP007490.exe

HP Embedded SATA RAID Controller Driver for Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003
version 1.2.5567.0 (12 Mar 07)

Although when attempting to install I get the message:

The software will not be installed on this system because the required hardware is not present in the system or the software/firmware doesn't apply to this system.

Any other ideas?

Has anyone done this?

TIA,
Jeff
