SAS disk failure

Hi, i hope someone can help me with this. I have 2 ML 350 g5. One with 4 disk sas 10k 146 gb, one with one port and the other 3 with 2 ports. The RAID is 1+0. Firmware 1.80

And the other server have RAID 1, with 2 sas 10k 146 gb, one with one port and the other with 2 port. Firmware 1.84

Last weak one disk of the server with 4 disk failed ( the one with one port ) in the bay 1. Server still running fine.

Can i replace the failed disk on the server with raid 1+0 with the sas disk in the other server ( the one with two port ). This action will work fine? Can a i do this just unplugging the disk and put in the other server? I supossed that i must shut down the server that have 2 disk, take one disk and put in the other server powered on? Is this ok?

Re: SAS disk failure

Yes.

You pull the disk that you want to move, hot.
And insert it in the other server, hot.

Normally this will work.
Just beware, there is always a tiny risk.

Why don't you wait for a replacement drive?

Do consider to upgrade FW on both servers / disks, before moving disk, if you choose so.

You could try to reseat the failed disk to see if it is really failed.
Pull it out.
Wait at least 30 secondst.
Reinsert.
Give it 5 minutes.
check if it rebuild.

Re: SAS disk failure

Can i upgrade the firmware of the server with 1 disk failed with no problem? If i reboot the server, this will boot ok?

Re: SAS disk failure

Yes.

Unless you have another more severe failure.
