SATA Harddisk on Proliant ML310

Hi All!

I have a Proliant ML310 with an 80GB SATA hard diskl. I discovered that it is too small for what I want and I bought myself a 500GB SATA drive. The problem is that the only way to install is by sticking the drive into a special frame/enclosure/tray (whatever you call it). I have looked on the HP web site, googled dozens of other sites and I cannot find any place that sells them. Given a choice, I would prefer to use the 80GB for the system, databases, etc and use the 500GB for data. However, if necessary I was thinking about taking the 80GB out of the frame and using just the 500GB. That means re-installing everything, but it seems to be a necessary evil.

Both the 80GB and 500GB are Seagate Barracuda and as far as I can see the connectors are identical, so I am assuming (hoping) that the only thing I really need is the frame/tray. However, I cannot find one anywhere.

Any help, guidance, sympathy is welcome.

regards,

jimmo

why you're not finding that enclosure imagine if that kind of enclosure was in the market a lot of people would buy cheaper hard drive right

Re: SATA Harddisk on Proliant ML310

Thanks for that answer! The part number seems to fit from what I found in the internet. Unfortunately, I cannot buy the tray directly from HP here in Germany (not in stock). I did find a few places that sold them, but they start at about 60â ¬. It would be cheaper to get a kit to convert it to a USB drive. I already installed the 500MB in the machine, so the 80GB is lying around doing nothing. If I bought a USB kit, at least I would have a way to use the drive.

Thanks also for the other links. It's nice to know others have the same problem if only to know that I am not alone. :-(
