SCO Openserver 5.0.5 & Proliant 800 - HD Disk lights up every second

Hard drive light comes on every second in conjunction with the tape drive light. This problem just started recently and have been checking for run away programs and find none.

Root filesystem is at 76% used capacity the rest of the file systems are at 50% and below.

Any suggestions whould be appreciated.

Thanks Craig

Hello Craig,

I don't know if you have a problem with drivers but it might be worth starting with the Compaq Extended Feature Supplement (EFS) for Openserver 5. It can be downloaded from the following link together with all available drivers/firmware for the Proliant 800 model.

Brian, Thanks for the response. I currently have version 5.25a install. I will give the new version 5.48 a try and will let you know.

Re: SCO Openserver 5.0.5 & Proliant 800 - HD Disk lights up every second

Brian,

Installed EFS 5.48 yesterday and the system is still doing the same thing. However, I noticed in the Syslog file the following message is getting posted

a3360 bootpd[935]: version 2.3.5
a3360 inetd[347]: /etc/bootpd: exit 0x1

this repeats its self every second

Dear Craig

Any luck with your query. I encountered the same problem recently. My root directory overflew and the system stopped responding. I deleted the syslog file and recreated another blank syslog file. This temporarily solved my problem.

I also increased the bootpd search time to 1200 and this reduced the incidence of writes to syslog. Still no where near perfect solution

Re: SCO Openserver 5.0.5 & Proliant 800 - HD Disk lights up every second

The problem was with bootpd messages being written to the syslog file.

I commented the following line in /etc/inetd.conf file

bootps dgram udp wait root /etc/bootpd bootpd

and rebooted the machine.

Messages have now stopped.

Re: SCO Openserver 5.0.5 & Proliant 800 - HD Disk lights up every second

To Krishna,

Since I last installed EFS 5.48 on May 10th my Bootpgw messages only seem to start on Fridays had 3 so far and 1 on Thursdday. The only way I could stop the messages was to reboot the machine.

In regards to the inetd.conf file my VSIFAX program added that your line that you commented out "bootps dgram udp wait root /etc/bootpd bootpd" a very long time ago. After reading up on the bootpwg I added the following lines to the inetd.conf file as well and maybe this is why I'm getting the messages popping up on Fridays now vs. everyday in the past.

"bootps dgram udp wait root /etc/bootpd bootpd bootptab" and

"bootps dgram udp wait root /etc/bootpgw bootpgw server"

I try commenting them all out and see how that does.

Also, can you tell me how to increase the bootpd search time. Thanks for your help.

Craig

Re: SCO Openserver 5.0.5 & Proliant 800 - HD Disk lights up every second

To Prashant,

Got the lights to only come on once a week now with some other tweaks in the SCO software (see my message to Krishna).

In regards to the hardware error report on the server I tried to install the IML Management Utility version 1.12 A (12 Apr 00) but it seems to be for Dos machines only because SCO Unix doesn't like the format when I reboot the machine with the disk in drive A. I couldn't find any instructions to do it for unix. Do you have any?

Thanks for your help

Craig

Craig

bootpd -t 2400

2400 being the no of minutes for the system to wait for a response. Default is 900 minutes.
