Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
I did as you suggested and burned a SmartStart 7 CD and booted off it. I then changed the rebuild and expand rate from low to high and re-started the server.
Once it was up and running I ran an array report and promptly found the problem was gone :-)
I then changed the rebuild and expand rate back to Low, committed the changes and ran another array report - same thing - problem solved!
Thanks very much for everyone's help. I'm now running the latest firmware and all my drives are stamped for performance monitoring.
Best!
Marvin

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
Further Analysis of the ADU report shows the service time of the Hard Drives as :
SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 0 : 1684371058
SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 1 : 2267333
SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 2 : 2257618
SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 3 : 2270509
SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 4 : 1684371058
SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 5 : 1684371058
Service time is the Age Of the HDD in secs.
Calculating : 1684371058/(60 sec*60 Mins*24 Hrs) = HDD age in Days.
Drive 1,2,3 = 26 days & some minutes
Drive 0,4,5 = 53 YEARS & COUNTING !!
Thats even before SCSI was invented ! LOL!
I think the FIRMWARE for the HDDs is to be updated.
MODEL :BF01865222 firmware update is available in smartstart CD 7.7; However, I will recommend using 7.9.
Please Let us know;
Regards,
James.
PS: Always have a Backup Ready !! Play safe !

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
Thanks for noticing the issues with the drives. If there's updated firmware I'd like to install it.
When I check the page for my DL380 G2 (http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1342.html#86) it shows version 7.8
Can you provide a link to 7.9 if it's OK to use with my server?
Thanks!
Marvin

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
I was referring to Firmware Maintenance CD & not smartStart.
SmartStart's Latest Version is 7.8
For Firmware CD 7.9, refer :
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/revision/9014.html
Regards.

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
Thanks - I'm downloading it now and will run it as soon as I burn it :-)
Is there anyway to reset the error counters on the drives? It would be nice to start clean once the firmware's are all up to date.

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
I don't think we can Delete those errors on the HDD, specially in your case.
These errors are stored in the RIS - RAID Information Sector of the HDD.
The only way to get rid of it is(I think) to use the ERASE UTILITY from the SmartStart CD {under maintenance tab}. However, this will also ENSURE that ALL the DATA/Information is ERASED. I'm sure you are not looking forward to it. LOL !
Also, Each of these Errors have a TIME STAMP & TIME SINCE ERROR details, which helps us determine the latest error.
As per Your ADU report, you posted, the last error was a write error on SCSI Port 2, Drive ID 2, 40 DAYS AGO !! {nothing to worry about)
Regards,
James.

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
Interesting thing.... I ran the 7.9 Firmware CD and the only thing it came up with is the 5i firmware update of 2.66 (a).
We just upgraded it previously and it would not let me do it.
It did not report that the drives (or anything else) needed a firmware update - go figure.
Best!

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
I would conclude that the Drives have the latest firmwares.
However, try
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/download/27437.html
ROM Flash Component - BF01865222 and BF03665223 drives - 18 July, '07.

Re: SCSI Port 2 Drive ID 0 is not stamped for monitoring
That file appears to be pooched. It's actually listed with a suffix of .scexe
I tried just changing the extension after downloading it but that didn't work either :-0
