SCSI Raidcontroller 642 with four 15K 146.5 HP disks in a Proliant ML310 G5p possible?
Hi,
I supervise three HP Proliant ML servers:
1. ML310 G4
2. ML310 G5p
3. ML350 G4
The first one has a P400 SATA/SAS raidcontroller ( PCI-E) with four 250 GB in a Raid 5 config.
The second one just one 160 SATA disk
And the third one the big ML350 G4 a SCSI Raidcontroller 642 (PCI-X) with one mirror and one RAID 5 configuration with 4 HP 146,5 GB disks.
My question is:
They have to operate in a open office room so the very noisy ML350 G4 is no longer an option.
Is it possible to operate the SCSI setup (minus the mirror because the ML310's can only have four disks in their drivecages) from the ML350 G4 in the ML310 G5p with a optional PCI X extender (HP PCI-X Extender Board Kit (451778-B21)?
Thanks in advance.
Robert

I don't see why not the SA 642 can not be used with that option, but how do you plan to install the SCSI drives from the ML350 G4 on the ML310 G5p? I don't think you can move the SCSI hard drive cage and install it in the ML310 G5p or just move the hard drives from a SCSI server to a SAS/SATA server. Also you must consider that the Smart Array 642 doesn't show as listed on the options for a ML310 G5p so I am not sure if the BIOS of that server will be able to handle the card.

Maybe I just have to try it.
I just bought a P400 Array controller with two HP 300GB enterprise disks that should work definitely but although it's the 512 MB version there's no battery...
