Re: SCSI Termination

SCSI Termination

We have a DL380 server, with a Compaq 3200 SCSI controller fitted. The HDD RAID array works on the 3200 SCSI card. We wish to use the integrated SCSI controller to run an external Compaq 40/80 DLT drive. The integrated controller has 2 internal connectors and one external, what should the Termination configuration be?

At present, both internal connectors are terminated with an active terminator on the end of the internal ribbon-connector cables. The DLT drive does not have a terminator fitted (on the assumption it is self-terminating). We get a termination error in the post-boot screen telling us that we can not mix internal and external devices on the same channel (yet no devices are fitted internally, only terminators. The DLT drive is the only external device connected).

Re: SCSI Termination

I have the exact same problem, as does it seem other people in the forum as well. Come on Compaq, what is the Answer?

Re: SCSI Termination

In order to run anything off the external SCSI port you have to unplug the internal cable from port one. You can only run all internal or all external devices off that port.

Re: SCSI Termination

Megapez is right... If there is a cable attached internally to that port, that cable is terminating that channel that is shared with the external port...

Re: SCSI Termination

If you require to connect an external device on the scsi bus you must disconnect the internal scsi cable otherwise you will get 1702 errors.
