SCSI Ultra320 10K hp hard disk net detected

I have Proliant ML350 server, with two SCSI hard drives, recently one of them is detected by windows device manager, but no by "disk Manager", at SCSI bios startup it is detected with a message "medium error", I have important data on the disk, how can I correct the problem, smatstart test "pass" for this disk, but I noticed that it did not report the size which is 36 GB.

From your description so far, I will assume then that they are setup as RAID 0?, a RAID logical drive for each disk? And one physical drive has failed then.

Well if the drive is not listed anymore, then the contoller is ignoring it because of the error. We could try and hool the disk up to a std SCSI controller and run a fix disk, but my guess is that the drive is lost.

Re: SCSI Ultra320 10K hp hard disk net detected

Assuming you are using onboard SCSI controller (non-RAID), power off, pull out the data HD and leave OS disk, boot it up, open up Computer Management, plug the data scsi disk in, in device manager scan new devices, wait until it finishes, goto disk management and refresh. If you need to initialise the disk then do so.

It may be ideal to try a different slot if that fails.

Re: SCSI Ultra320 10K hp hard disk net detected

I used Insight Diagnostics came with the server, it detected the bad scsi hard disk but it did not report the size of the disk, I RUN the SMARTSTART , it also detected the BAD drive and reported "PASS" after testing it. CAN any one help in a utility that can FIX SCSI hard disks, mine is ULTRA320 HP 36 GB hot Pluggable HARD DISK,

I Have SCSI 160 PCI scsi adapter installed in another computer, can I intall this disk on that adapter although the adapter is SCSI160.

thank u all

You can downland the trial software from this company http://www.r-studio.com/

If the device manager recognises the disk drive, then this software will hopefully be able to access the data.

There is no harm to try as it will perform read-only when running as a trial.

Re: SCSI Ultra320 10K hp hard disk net detected

dear Gus, I downloaded the r-studio, it detected the two hard disks, when I righ click on the healthy HD, it shows scan, but it did no work with the disk I want, i show every thing as disabled options, moreover i noticed that r-studio did not show the HD size, please tell me what to do,

Re: SCSI Ultra320 10K hp hard disk net detected

Have you try the disk on a different server? I assume this is not a Smart Array server?

If that fails, then I cannot think of anything else except sending it to the specialist so that they can retrieve the files you want. Or you can find an absolutely identical disk drive and swap the plates (only do that if your data is not that important after all).
