SNMP services Stops automatically - Windows 2003 server R2 SP2, HP DL385 G2

SNMP service crashes ( automatically stops) .
Following are the troubleshooting steps that we have followed and nothing has worked out.

1) Stopped and re-started the snmp services.
2) Re-booted the server.
3) Tried removing the "Rack information" and "Performance Monitor" from the active agents of the system management homepage.

You'd have to look at what else has been put on the server.
I've got a few R2 SP2 servers, snmp is fine on those.

You could try removing / reinstalling snmp, not sure if you'll need to remove the HP agents first.

You'll need to remove the HP Management Agent first. I would do that then remove SNMP then reboot once. Make sure that SNMP is not on the server and then re-add SNMP.

Run the server to make sure that SNMP works fine without the agents.

If so, install a stable build of the agents (8.10 works for me) and then see if you have the issues again.

have you tried removing SNMP from Add/Remove windows Components and reboot and after that reinstall SNMP service again? have you?


have you checked windows event log for any error related with SNMP stopping?

Hi, I can fix it temporally, I explain:

I've created one reg file: arcserve.reg with this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\SNMP]
"Pathname"="C:\\Program Files\\CA\\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\\tasnmp"


And snmpstart.cmd with this commands:

REGEDIT /S arcserve.reg
NET START SNMP

I've modified the snmp service recovery tab, using the file snmpstart.cmd whith the first error.

Whit this I can start snmp service, because these registry entry don't leave starts, this cmd delete first and starts snmp service. In my case, if I delete the registry entry after a reboot appears again.

HI sorry for my questation . I have similar problem. HP insight agent after some days return this error and crash
"Faulting application cqmghost.exe, version 8.11.0.0, faulting module cpqmhost.dll, version 8.11.0.0, fault address 0x00002c2a." , after this snmp service is down .
Can You help me ?
