Re: Serial Number Date Code

no I was trying to determine if the server we have is one afeected by customer advisory EL 030207_CW01 revision 1, called "Certain ProLiant DL360 G3 Servers Require System ROM Update And SW2 Maintenance Switch S3 Set To The `OFF` Position To Allow Control Of Fan Speed By The Health Driver". I have a loud server and I am trying to deterimine if it is normal or not.

Re: Serial Number Date Code

Ah, yes. There should be a grey / tan 10 digit sticker either on the front bezel, on the left side pannel or on the rear of the server. So as you look at that number xx32xxxxxx, if you have that serial number or less than 32, means you need to update your ROM and set SW1 pin 3 OFF.

Here is the latest ROM:

Enjoy!

Re: Serial Number Date Code

Gary,

More than likely that is the model number.
There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Re: Serial Number Date Code

Gary,

As John suggested, check on the front bezel. Sometimes they "hide" it on one of the inside edges.

Solution

Re: Serial Number Date Code

Hi Gary,

If you haven't solved your problem already, here are a couple of ways to solve your problem:

1. Look at the side where disk slot 0 & 5 are, you should see the serial number in vertical fashion.

Or,

2. Reboot the server, hit "F9" to get into RBSU, the very first screen that you get has the system serial number on the right pane.

Or,

3. If you have installed the server with Proliant SUpport Pack and are aware of Survey Utility, look for "Survey.txt" in C:\Compaq\Survey. This file has the serial number for your server too.

Or,

4. If you have installed the server using Smart Start or have the management agents installed anyway, from a browser window, type https:\\localhost:2381 or if without SSL http:\\localhost:2301
The device home page should tell you the serial number of your server.

Hope it helps and could you please assign points to the replies.

Re: Serial Number Date Code

OK, I apprciate all the help and quick too. I have found the serial number, I think. It is a 10 character code with alpha and number character. however the above advisory refers to a serial number date code that is just a straight 10 numerals. that I have not found.

Re: Serial Number Date Code

Hi
The date code is contained within the serial number. In the 10 digit format you look at the 3rd and 4th digit. To take John's example of xx32xxxxxx 3 is for 2003 as we can tell the decade can't we! and 2 is for February the months run 1 for January to B for December.
It's worth checking when you receive new kit as it can sit in warehouses for several months as the warranty ticks away.

Re: Serial Number Date Code

Great, the 3rd and 4th digit of my serial number are 8C. could this possibly be the right one? I feel so stupid, having such a long thread just to get a single number.

Re: Serial Number Date Code

Hi
The C would make sense C = December not B as I said earlier! The G3 launched November 2002 so the year digit should be 2 or 3.
I typed the earlier from memory and have since found the Compaq document that states the new 'all products' serial format but that says 12 digits so I'm confused again!
The serial number stickers are a bit small and prone to smudging.
