Server blue screened after Faulty drive swapped
I swapped out a faulty drive on a raid 5 configuration. Then it blue screened and I could not get it to boot. (messages indicating no boot information-windows recovery failed as it couldnt see a drive!)
In the end I removed the drive and booted up and select the option to repait the logical drive. This now has let me into windows....however I have only 3 drives now so if one fails I need to rebuild.
Question is why did this happen
And what do i need to do to get the replacment drive in and working.
I have attatehed the compaq log file
Many Thanks in advance

Re: Server blue screened after Faulty drive swapped
this particular one is caused by 0xC000009C STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR, generally due to bad block on the drive. Since the drives are running off an array controller you should generally not be seeing errors about bad blocks. If you do, I suspect there could be something wrong with the controller.

Re: Server blue screened after Faulty drive swapped
Which server do you have?
What array controller are you using?
What firmware version of the controller?
How was the drive determined to be failed? Solid red led?
Flashing red led?

Re: Server blue screened after Faulty drive swapped
please power server down, reseat all drives and check both ends of the cabling going to the drive cage and check for bent pins etc...
it is possible you may have a bad cable or scsi backplane, but would be best to send in another ADU report after you do the above.
also please run firmware updates on the server if possible before sending in another adu report.

Re: Server blue screened after Faulty drive swapped
All four drives attached to the 532 show as having failed at some point. You can see this in the report by searching on "last failure reason". Have you been reseating id 3? This drive shows as having failed yesterday due to a "hotplug event" (usually means someone pulled it out and put it back in).
Like Ryan said this is a communication problem. This could be resolved by updating firmware and reseating everything.
