Server disk wiping

Hi,

We are decommissioning a couple of old Proliant servers.

Is there any tools to wipe the disks on the server [maybe free?] and optionally do the wiping remotely?

Thanks

Re: Server disk wiping

If the array controller is a P420 or above, the Smart Storage Administrator app (you can reach that during boot, the full graphical array setup) has the option to erase a drive.

For older systems you can probably find some flavor of Linux that can boot from a USB drive and use a disk wipe utility from there.

I used to use some DOS utilities and boot off a USB virtual floppy, but it's been a while and they probably don't handle the larger partitions sizes or types anymore (GDISK for example, part of the Ghost utilities).

Re: Server disk wiping

I did some quick Googling for "secure disk wipe" and a few free utilities show up, with bootable disk/USB options... thinks like KillDisk or DBAN, etc.
