Server harddisk upgrade.

Server harddisk upgrade.

I have a server (HP Compaq Proliant ML 570) with an array of 3 old disks (18.2 GB). I need to add 2 disks (to the other 3). On the up side of a disk I have seen many codes: SERIAL NUMBER, CT, MODEL NUMBER, DRIVE CPN, FACTORY PN, DRIVE DPN, DSN.
Which are the codes most important to find the same kind of disks?

Thanks in advance for every help.
Marcello.

Re: Server harddisk upgrade.

The easiest way to ensure you get the same type of drive as the current ones is to get the spare number. If you turn the drive over and look on the bottom you should see a sticker that has that info.

On a side note, I would probably not recommend trying to buy this drive as a spare part since it will likely cost a quite a bit more than you would expect. As an example: 18.2 GB U3 10k drive on the HP spare store runs $426. A new 72.8 GB U320 10k drive runs $329. Plus the new drive comes with a 3 year warranty.

Re: Server harddisk upgrade.

I have an image in a doc file (sorry!) of a disk, can you write the spare number?

Thank you.

Re: Server harddisk upgrade.

Just an additional question or two on this point of adding drives. Im using an ML370 which has 4 9gb drives in it. If I wanted to replace all of them with ones with more space on them, what do I need to look for? Do I need to buy a specific type? Are there any I should avoid or are there can I use any solong as they are all identical to each other?

Thanks
Antony

Re: Server harddisk upgrade.

Just using larger sized drives should not raise any concerns. If you upgrade to U320 drives, then the main thing to be concerned about is whether the controller supports faster drives.
