Server suddenly shuts down by itself

Hi,

For well over one week ago, we experienced a strange problem on one of our ProLiant DL160 G5 Servers.

Suddenly the server did not respond.

When we investigated the problem, it turned out that the server was powered off.

The server is located in our datacenter in a locked rack. No one other than us have access to the rack.
Obviously we did not power off the server ourselves.
There is no software on the server that could have turned it off.

This means that the server has suddenly shut down by it self.

When we powered the server back on, the BIOS wrote that there was one new event in the error log. The event was that there was a CMOS checksum error.

What can cause the server to shut down by it self?

What can cause the CMOS checksum error.

The unexpected shutdown cause the CMOS checksum error.
The unexpected shutdown can be caused:
by a software issue (but you discard this)
by an enviromental problem (loss power? temperature?)
by an hardware problem.
Nothing from event viewer?

There has not been any power loss.
The temperature logging says that the temperature has been stable on 16-17 degrees Celsius at the front of the rack and 33 degrees Celsius at the back.

You mean like if the PSU is broken?

How do I check if the hardware should be defect in any way?

Nothing noticeable in the event log. Just some messages about missing keyboard, etc. Nothing relevant for this.

Are you getting event id 6008's in the event viewer (previous system shutdown was unexpected)?
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Not as far as I remember.

We have been having a similiar issue, did you ever get a resolution?

For the last week or so, one of our ProLiant ML370 G3 servers is automatically shutting down around 5:45-6:00pm in the evening.

The only thing I see in the event logs is something that states event service has stopped.

I troubleshooted over the weekend, and the server did not shutdown saturday or sunday, but did shutdown tuesday morning.

Have not looked at the bios log yet....

Did you ever find a resolution?

Any luck with a resolution to this? Our ML310 has been down for over 4 days. HP support has replaced everything in the box and still doesn't know what the problem is.

Re: Server suddenly shuts down by itself

Hello,

Have these servers been run in a minimal config?
What type of HW are inside them. Any extras?

Have you completed a few loops in offline diagnostics to make sure Dimms and CPUs are fine?
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is that little extra.
