Service Partition

Hi,

proliant servers used to be delivered with a compaq smart start cdrom (so i've heard). This cdrom provided the possibility to install a service partition of approx. 20 MB.

Now a hp smart start cdrom was delivered with the proliant server. The server booted from this cdrom. But i did not find a way to install the service partition.

Is there still a way to install this service partition. Or is the service partition obsolete today?

Thanks in advance,

Christian Neise.

Re: Service Partition

It depends on which server you are using. The 'new' Proliant models don't need a system partition anymore because setup is already in ROM.

Since SmartStart 6.0 a system partition is no longer supported. SmartStart 5.5 was the last version that supported system partitions (and is still needed to install these 'older' servers).

Re: Service Partition

Small note: the System Partition is not needed on any proliant since you can easily configure the server by booting from the Smartstart cd and select SCU or even from the SCU floppies.
A Proliant a day keeps the competition away!
