Shared Hotswap

Is there a way to share a hotswap spare over 2 different controllers on the same machine?

Sorry but you can't. Once the spare is assigned to a raid set it cannot be assigned to another raid set.

there is no way to share any drives across multiple controllers. each controllers firmware can handle only local drives attached to the controller.

a single smart controller supports local spares, global spares ( a spare is assigned to multiple logical drives) and with new firmware even multiple spares within a single logical drive.

this even works across multiple channels, but all drives must be connected to a single controller

as you can only connect one cable to a backplane (two if the bus is split - but still one cable per segment), there is no physical connection between the scsi busses of two separate controllers

as a result, controllers CANNOT share spare drives.
