Slow SATA Using E200i

DL160 using (4) 750GB MDL SATA drives (3.0 gb/sec) in a single RAID 5 array. Server has a E200i controller w/battery backup. Operating System is Windows 2008 64bit with 13GB RAM. Write Cache is enabled.

When copying large files (70GB for example), I'm seeing thruputs of 8-10 mb/sec. This can't be the best this equip can do...Any thoughts? I've spoken to Tech Support a few times and they have nothing to offer.

Re: Slow SATA Using E200i

The E200 doesn't support 3gb/s SATA drives, only 1.5gb/s. Your throughput is pretty much the same as our DL180 with an E200, I've seen it jump as high as 20Mb/s, but it settles around 10.

Re: Slow SATA Using E200i

Thanks for the reply...I've sort of accepted this as the norm. Shame since it seems teh E200i doesn't even give close to the 1.5 GB/sec...First time HP equip has failed me. I'm looking into replacing it w/a third part RAID card...

Re: Slow SATA Using E200i

HP released new smart array controller and specs say that it support 3gb SATA HDDs

Re: Slow SATA Using E200i

So to continue this thread...When you look at the specs for the new controllers, they say "1.5G SATA (3G SATA Capable)". What does this mean? Is the transfer rate 1.5 but at some point in the future it will be 3.0? Or does it mean if you have 3.0 drives, you'll automatically get 3.0 now?

Re: Slow SATA Using E200i

Is the E200i the embedded sata controller? wow so seeing 8-10mb/sec is normal. I can't believe it. My desktop gets at least 50mb/sec
