Slow disk performance DL380

Slow disk performance DL380

We have two 36.4 GB in a Raid 0/1 conf.
And experiencing very slow disk performance.
A file copy of 8 MB within the array takes about 1 minute.
Nothing to see in logfiles.

Re: Slow disk performance DL380

ARe you using the on board RAID controller or software RAID? Is it the 5i or 5i+?

Thanks,
Doug

Re: Slow disk performance DL380

We're using the onboard controller, 5i Plus,
and the latest version FW2.56(+) and driver
Strange is that on a earlier 380 (with 4 38,6 in a 0/1 conf) there is much better performance.

Re: Slow disk performance DL380

I'd call hp.
There's not much settings that can be done on the hardware raid that affect performance ( beside RAID level ).

Re: Slow disk performance DL380

Did you solve your problem?

Do you you have more RAIDs with de same problem?
Does your server works fine?
Has these disks the same fw, p/n, blocks?

Re: Slow disk performance DL380

But the strange thing is that we hav'nt noticed any slow performance when the machine was installed. all disks reports OK!
No suspiciuos s/n or partno.
We have the latest HP and Microsoft versions. No other defects on the other DL380 just these two ( 2x36,4 raid0/1)

Re: Slow disk performance DL380

Have you played around with the 5i controllers cache settings? I think out of the box it's set for 50%read and 50%write.

Re: Slow disk performance DL380

Actually, I believe the 5i cache settings are set out-of-the-box for 100% READ and 0% WRITE. This, of course, will result in poor (actually, horrible) write performance.

You will want to change that to 50/50, or 25/75.

Also, check your array rebuild priority, etc. If the array is still mirroring, and rebuild priority is set to "high", rebuild IOs will take priority over data writes.
