The plastic handle on the end of my card forces me to use Slot 1 on my ProLiant 5500.
If I removed the handle, it could fit in all the other slots.
I know the handle CAN be removed, but will it work in any of the other slots?
What is the purpose of the handle then? Is it for a previous generation of equipment?
Regards, Wesley.

Solution
The handle is optional. It's purpose is to extend the card so it catches the alignment slot. This makes it less likely that the board will come out of place, or be damaged during shipping and handling.

Re: Smart Array-2/P - Does it HAVE to be in Slot 1 (ProLiant 5500)?
I thought that was the case.
I have tried it int slot 7, and everything is functioning.
It doesn't go in Slot 6, because the PCI sockets have different alignment notches. I guess this is what determines WHICH slots the card WILL work in.
