Smart Array 5300 Controller: where to connect HD LED?

Can anyone tell me where to connect the HD LED to a Smart Array 5302 SCSI RAID Controller? I searched the documentation but nowhere I found a description of the various pin connectors this controller has. I need to connect the fron LED that signals HD activity to this controller and thus need informations where to connect it to.

Hi Bqawert- What server are you going to plug this in to? here is some support documentaion on the 5300. but it depends if its an HP server or not. Chances are you wont need a seperate cable to connect the LEDs as they are a function of the backplane.
thanks and let me know...

Re: Smart Array 5300 Controller: where to connect HD LED?

Hi Andy,
thanks for your answer. The machine I'm using the SA5302 is a HP i2000 Itanium workstation. Connection to the front LED is done via a cable. The controller works fine, but I miss the disk activity signalling by the fron LED. So I need to know where to connect the LED to.

Also thanks for the links. Saldy the second link just gives me a 404.

Re: Smart Array 5300 Controller: where to connect HD LED?

Im not familiar with the Itanium desktops. but am familiar with the 5300 series. I grabbed a 5300 from the lab here at work and I see 2 white connectors in between the controller chip and the heatsink. right above the cache module labeled E1 and E2. I'd bet this is what connects the backplane to the controller LEDs. here is another link for the 5300 seiries users manual pdf.

thanks!

Re: Smart Array 5300 Controller: where to connect HD LED?

Thanks again for the link. Sadly the documentation doesn't mention any pinout for the several pin connector on the controller board.

Another question: my controller is missing the "HP Smart Setup DVD" which comes with these controllers. Do you know where I can download it?

Re: Smart Array 5300 Controller: where to connect HD LED?

you are most welcome. follow this link and click on software. it will lead you to a spot on HPs website to DL all software for it. just choose your OS.

Re: Smart Array 5300 Controller: where to connect HD LED?

Andy, thank you again for your answer. Unfortunately the link doesn't work. But I suspect it leads to a similar site like this one:
<>

There indeed are all the drivers but sadly not the "HP Smart Setup DVD". This DVD is bootable on IPF (Itanium) machines and contains a EFI configuration ulility, so I'd need an image of this DVD.

weird. the link you copy here doesnt work for me, and mine dont work for you. but I can open my own.

i have a bootable setup CD here at my desk if its any consolation. you should be able to make your own with a smart start cd. last I knew they had a utility on ther ss cd that would make an image for you.
thanks Benjamin.
