I was looking at Smart Array 5300 Controller especifications
according to this
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10640_na/10640_na.HTML
Family Information
SA 5300 supports these SCSI protocols:
Ultra3, Ultra2, Wide-Ultra
so Ultra320 is not supported OK
ok my question is (silly question)
why there are available HDDs Ultra 320 - hot Plug for that controller?
so what does ultra320 mean on those HDDs?
that is not related with the SCSI protocol supported in the SA?
thanks

SolutionThe SA 5300 controller supported only the SCSI bus and protocols at the time of it's release.
The disk drives are generally "backwards compatable" with older SA controllers, so HP only stocks "Ultra320" type SCSI disks.
There are cases of limitations with older disk controllers, and newer disks (generally the larger sizes above 36.8 GB)as the hardware design of the SA controllers only addressed up to a max size of "x". Disk sizes have grown, and newer SA controllers were designed to support them.
Always , agood place to check is the Quick Specs site for any limitations.
Regards,
Louis
