Smart Array 5i and proware

Hi.
I have a HP server with a smart array 5i scsi controller.
I need to attach to it a proware storage system (sb3140) with datas on it.
When i connect the scsi cable the drive is recognized in the rom config, but i need to create a new logical drive to make the proware available in the linux OS.
Now, if i create a new drive, is it going to delete all datas on the storage?
I'd like to keep them, since it's about 1,5 Tbyte of datas :-)
Thank you

Pier

Yes, it's going to delete the data.

Re: Smart Array 5i and proware

Your SB3140 does RAID on its own. You cannot connect it to Internal 5i RAID.
Internal 5i ONLY does RAID, not generic SCSI.

Buy a Normal SCSI 160 or SCSI 320 card and then connect this card to your External Array.

Re: Smart Array 5i and proware

I'm not trying to connect it to internal raid, but to the external connector (HD68), as it was on the old server.
The connection works and the card sees a 1600 GB scsi hard disk.
I need to know if, in the process of creation the logical volume on the scsi card, it's going to delete datas on proware (and as it seems, it's going to delete everything :-( ).
