Re: Smart Array 5i error: 17XX-Controller in lock up state

Hi Yegor,

Update the SA-5i firmware to the latest revision. If this action does not resolve the issue, then replace the Systemboard.

Raj.

Hello Yegor,

Replace the system board since 5i is integrated to the board.

Re: Smart Array 5i error: 17XX-Controller in lock up state

Hi!
I can't upgrade firmware because this device locked (not detected by firmware CD manager).
System board, SCSI backplane and others were replaced.
But problem still remain.
The process of system component replacement is active now, but doesn't solve my problem.
I send a lette├Р┬║ to HP Experts and ... nothing.
Unobvious situation...

Re: Smart Array 5i error: 17XX-Controller in lock up state

Hi Yegor,

If the issue exists even after the Systemboard and backplane is replaced try the following and check it helps:

1. Turn off the server and remove all Hdds.

2. Disconnect the cables from the Onboard SCSI port to the SCSI Back plane.

3. In SW2 - Maintenance Switches(8-switches) turn on the S6 switch.

4. Start the server it should clear the previous cmos settings. Check if the error still exists. If error still exists replace board again.

5. If error does not exists, shutdown the server, ensure that the SCSI backplane is seated properly and reseat the SCSI cables on the backplane(Simplex board) and the SCSI cables from the system board to the SCSI backplane.

6. Restart the server, if the error comes up should be issue with backplane. Replace it.

7. If no errors connect the Hdds and check if it boots to desktop.

Regards,
Raj.

Re: Smart Array 5i error: 17XX-Controller in lock up state

Sorry.
But...
In detail.
All my manimulations processed in minimal configuration:
1. Without HDD and SCSI backplane.
2. With one Power Supply only.
3. Without Removable Devices (FDD,CD).
4. There are no cache module and BBWE (!!!).
5. With Two Xeons and Two modules of ECC RAM.
The all listed components were replaced during maintence process (repairing).
I execute all recommended actions (using S6 switch too).
So?

You are unlucky Yegor :-P. See if you can get a server swap.

Ha-Ha...
It doesn't solve my problem.
Very funny...
This server travel between many of my co-workers, I'm THE LAST who try to repair it.
So?
Have you any constructive solutions?
No?
To my mind, I must replace all components except server case (there are no spare p/n).
But...
I'm not sure that it is the best way.
