Smart Array 6400 Battery Confusion

I have two servers that have show failed batteries in Insight Manager. I ran HP Diagnostics on them and one shows battery 1 as failed, while the other shows battery 2 as failed. I have not been able to find anywhere in the documentation which battery is which. One is on the board itself, and on on the memory module. Wich is battery 1 and which is battery 2? Thanks!

Re: Smart Array 6400 Battery Confusion

Hi,

Not sure *which* 640x you have but the BBWC batteries are on the cache daughter cards:

Battery, 3.6V, 500-milliampere-hour, Nickel-metal hydride p/n 307132-001.

Can you run ADU or ACU to verify and post the results?

Re: Smart Array 6400 Battery Confusion

There is only one part number for spare battery module (as mentioned in the post above). Some older versions of Smart Array 6400 controller firmware had problems with battery charging algorithm, so it might a problem with firmware. Try upgrading firmware to the latest version (last time I checked it was 2.84. Reboot the server and check the batteries after 24-48 hours. I had the problem myself as well as some of my customers. In most cases upgrading old firmware resolved the problem.

Make sure the firmware is at 2.48 or above.
