Smart Array P400

Hello all!
We ara having some weird problems with our 2,5 inch SAS drives...
We have DL380 G5 server with 8 SAS disks installed.
Now it happens that Disks in Bay 3 and bay 4 (Running RAID 1+0) are marked as failed.
First one disk (Bay 3) is failed, second is OK... I replace disk do rebuild and everything is fine for 13-16 hours. Then OTHER disk (Bay 4) is marked as failed... I took disk out and the plugged in SAME disk and it works fine...
I suppose that it is Array controller problem and not disk problem...
See images attached (SCSI bus faults??!)

Thanks for help!

Re: Smart Array P400

Hi,

Did you make a controller firmware update? The latest is 4.12.

Re: Smart Array P400

If it's a hardware issue it may also be the backplane.

Re: Smart Array P400

Hi,
can you run online diagnostic from system management homepage, it will detect predictive
failure.
Can you share array diagnostic report to isolate the issue.
why it is failing , probably suspection goes to scsi backplane

Re: Smart Array P400

I have experienced this with two of the same servers. I cured this issue by FIRMLY reseating the drives in their cages. I have 4 DL380's and the two newer ones "G5" seem to have this issue.

The problem has not popped up since.

Re: Smart Array P400

Thanks on many replies :)

OK I did following:

1. Reseated all drives
2. Reseated cabling inside the server
3. Unplugged SAS controller and plugged it back in
4. Removed power cables and plugged them back in after 5 mins

Runned diag of drives all drives passed the test so this is 100% NOT the HDD fault...

I attached Array report, hope you find out more than I did..

Re: Smart Array P400

That did not help either...

I will probably DEGRADE firmware as it may be firmware error of some kind...

Re: Smart Array P400

Re: Smart Array P400

Hi!

OK I have new smart array and backpanes for HDD from other same server...

If I replace them both will I loose my raid fields? And possibly all of my data?

I know If I only replace Smart Array there should be no problem at all but what about backpanes?

Thanks for reply!
