Smart array controller 6400

I am getting replace battery warnings for the 6400 controller card. However there are two batteries on the card, one attached to the memory module and one on the card. Any ideas which one a replace or do I have to replace both.

Thanks in advance

Re: Smart array controller 6400

or look over report Battery Pack 1 at Memory module, Battery Pack 2 at board Itself.

Re: Smart array controller 6400

Generally this is going to be a problem with the battery on the cache module, but I'd make sure the controller has the latest firmware installed on it, since the newer firmware revisions for this controller have multiple battery fixes included.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Re: Smart array controller 6400

As the others have mentioned, these controllers have had past history with the firmware and the bbwc modules not operating correctly.

Best bet would be to update to firmware version 2.58 and leave the server running for at least 24 hours and see if the issue persists.

You will need the firmware cd to apply this update with the 6400 firmware on diskette. When you boot to the CD you will see an option to "use supplemental diskette."

Firmware CD 7.4 download:

2.58 6400 offline firmware download:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/download/23680.html

The revision history shows you where the bbwc issues were fixed in version 2.48 and the fixes are also present in 2.58, you only need to apply the firmware once (2.58)
