This 2/P controlled will only initialise about once in 5 re-boots.

How can it be repaired? TIA.

Re: SmartArray 2/p on Proliant 2500 - intermitent initialisation

Hi,

Have you tried to update teh firmware for the following controller 2/p.

--------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
When configured with certain Compaq Smart Array controllers, SMART-2 Array Controller series (SMART-2DH, SMART-2SL, SMART-2/P, and SMART-2/E), and StorageWorks RAID Arrays, some Compaq ProLiant, Compaq ProSignia, and Compaq Prosignia servers may not initialize during server startup and may display the following error message:

"1783 - Slot x Drive Array Controller Failure"

After this error message occurs, the firmware on the array controller cannot be upgraded (flashed) and the array controller must be replaced.

PRODUCTS AFFECTED
This issue may affect the following ProLiant, ProSignia, and Prosignia servers:

ProLiant 800, ProLiant 850R, ProLiant 1000, ProLiant 1200, ProLiant 1500, ProLiant 1600, ProLiant 1850R, ProLiant 2000, ProLiant 2500, ProLiant 3000, ProLiant 4000, ProLiant 4500, ProLiant 5000, ProLiant 5500, ProLiant 6000, ProLiant 6500, ProLiant 7000, ProLiant 8000, ProLiant 8500, ProLiant DL320, ProLiant DL360, ProLiant DL380, ProLiant DL580, ProLiant ML330, ProLiant ML350, ProLiant ML370, ProLiant ML530, and ProLiant ML570
ProSignia, ProSignia 200, ProSignia 300, and ProSignia 500
Prosignia Server 720 and Prosignia Server 740
When they are configured with the following controllers and firmware:

Smart Array 221 Controller, firmware version 4.32 or earlier
Smart Array 3100ES Controller, firmware version 4.32 or earlier
Smart Array 3200 Controller, firmware version 4.32 or earlier
SMART-2 Array Controller series (SMART-2DH, SMART-2SL, SMART-2/P, and SMART-2/E), firmware version 4.32 or earlier
StorageWorks RAID Array 4000, version 2.54 or earlier (used in StorageWorks RAID Array 4000 and StorageWorks RAID Array 4100)

RESOLUTION/SOLUTION
Prevention
To prevent this issue from occurring, the firmware of the Smart Array and SMART-2 Array series (SMART-2DH, SMART-2SL, SMART-2/P, and SMART-2/E) controllers with firmware version 4.32 or earlier should be upgraded to version 4.44 or later. The StorageWorks RAID Array 4000 with firmware version 2.54 or earlier should be upgraded to version 2.58 or later.

To upgrade controller firmware, use Compaq Options ROMPaq for Array Controllers Version 3.01 or later, available either in Compaq SmartStart for Servers Release 5.00 or as Compaq SoftPaq SP16276. Download and run Compaq SoftPaq SP16276, available on the Compaq website at http://www.compaq.com/support/files.

Resolution
To resolve this issue after the "1783 - Slot x Drive Array Controller Failure" error message is displayed at POST, the affected array controller should be replaced.

SERVICE ACTION
Inform the customer of the resolution.

If one of the above-mentioned servers has displayed the 1783 error message at POST, and the customer requests Compaq Authorized Provider (ASP) assistance, order the spare part and install it for the customer. Refer to the following listing of spare part numbers for the appropriate array controller.

Re: SmartArray 2/p on Proliant 2500 - intermitent initialisation

Prashant,

Thanks for your informative reply.

I am a bit intimidated by the Rompaq update procedure.

I was able to update the Proliant 2500R (on which the card is located) BIOS using the RomPaq facility on the SmartStart (v5.3) disk generously given to me by the 'Compaq' guy at HP in Canberra Australia last year, but have been unable to work out
a) where on the HP website does the 2/P Rompaq update you mention reside and
b) how to go about installing it.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: SmartArray 2/p on Proliant 2500 - intermitent initialisation

Prashant,

After reading your post more fully I see where to find the firmware upgrade. I will make another post in a day or so to let you know if it was successful.

Thanks again.

Re: SmartArray 2/p on Proliant 2500 - intermitent initialisation

Hi,

As correctly pointed by Prashant, please go ahead and upgrade your firmware. Have you also confirmed that the server is running the latest drivers or the bundled Proliant Support Pack to update all HP device drivers and system utilities?

To download so, go on hp.com->software and drivers->proliant 2500->download software and drivers->select support pack.
