SmartArray P400i - can not expand array when internal battery is dead
Hi everyone,
I've observed something strange -- SmartArray P400i with an existing array- I added few more drives but I can not expand array and I suspect that this is due to the internal battery is dead
By "can not expand" I mean the option to expand the array when looking at the SmartArray configuration utility just isn't there? This is an older G5 ProLiant so I'm using SmartStart GUI for SmartArray mamanegemt and I know where or how the expansion works.
So in summary is this some kind of safety feature where array expansion is disabled if the battery is dead?
Thank you
~B

Yes you are correct. If the battery or the cache module, have failed or the raid controller did not come with them, all the online operations (array and logical drive expansion, raid type and stripe size migrattion) are disabled.

thanks @TTr -- ordering new battery; will try to expand then! I suspected something like that since I've identical boxes and they have the on-line expansion options just as expected.
