SmartStart V5.50 and Maintance Disk

Hello,

I obtained an old ML350 G2 Server and want to reconfigure it. Although the previous owner gave me two floppy's with the array utility i cant use them as they are no systemdisks.

Tryed to reinstall the ACU on the floppy's doent work out so i think the floppy's are done with. I cant even format them anymore and i dont have floppy's around anymore.

I tryed downloading both SmartStart V7.10 and V5.50 but the V5 is a download of appertently 400MB although prepairing it to burn shows a file less then 40 MB and while burning there is an error. Retryed the download 4 times (2 times on a other PC) with the same result.
In other words its broken some where and i cant fix this.

The V7.10 does burn in the right way but lacks support for the 2-DH Smart Array card.

So im back to have the V5.50 but i cant get it installed properly. how can i fix this has someone a working version online?

Second Question is when i download the maintaince disk and put it in the server it says that no content has been installed so i cant update the firmware. How can i fix this?

Cheers from Holland,

Johan Vermeulen

ps. Sorry for my bad English

Re: SmartStart V5.50 and Maintance Disk

I think you should exchange the 2-DH array to a newer but not expensive HP Smart Array card such as 431, 5300 series which has an onboard Array Configuration utility since the 2-DH is too old and too slow. Only Smart Start 5.50 or before can be use on the 2DH, 3200, 4200 series Array Card. I never try to dwonload the 5.50 because I have one and that work fine with the ML350 G2 and 2-DH.

Re: SmartStart V5.50 and Maintance Disk

Hello Kevin,

Well i managed to take down the part of the V5.50 seems that my first burning program didnt understand what to do. But it works now.
Actually its doing something now....

All lights are flashing on the drives cause i reassinged them but i think that will be over shortly.

The only thing im concerned about is that i still didnt found a sollution for the maintance Disk.

Cheers,

Re: SmartStart V5.50 and Maintance Disk

Which version of the Firmware Maintenance CD are you trying to use?

ML350 G2 support was removed with Version 7.60 and later.

Re: SmartStart V5.50 and Maintance Disk

Hi,

1) SmartStart
2) PSP
3) Firmware CD *
4) O/S

Make sure your system meets the minimum f/w levels. If not, then a ROMPAQ diskette may be the only way to get it to where the O/S will run properly. Normally not an issue, but can happen.

Did you install the correct Proliant Support Pack for the O/S you'll be installing later?

"ProLiant Support Packs represent operating system (OS) specific bundles of ProLiant optimized drivers, utilities, and management agents. These bundles of software are tested and released concurrently with HP's SmartStart CD to ensure proper installation and functionality."

You'll need the specific SmartStart & PSP versions compatible for your O/S that you're trying to install (w2k PSP 5.50(b) can be found here): http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=fi&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=316596&prodNameId=3279703&swEnvOID=181&swLang=8&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-UNITY-I16368&mode=3

Other SmartStart and PSP versions for other O/S can be found here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=3279703тМй=en&cc=fi&taskId=135&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=316596

Re: SmartStart V5.50 and Maintance Disk

F/W = Firmware or BIOS level. The latest for the ML350 G2 is:

ProLiant ML350 G2 ROM D11 (11/01/2003)

When the system starts to POST you see the ROM BIOS version on the screen the latest date code for (D11) is 4.04 dated 11/01/2003.

Linux matrix (old):

Sorry I can't help you with your specific linux version. You might experiment with different Linux SmartStart Management CD (PSP) vesions to see if they pick up the hardware.

If any of this info was helpful, assign some points to those that tried to assist you.

Cheers!

Re: SmartStart V5.50 and Maintance Disk

I forgot to post this link:

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/servers/supportsoftware/linux/

You may find all of the old linux Proliant Support Pack (PSP) files there.

Good Luck!
