Does anyone know what SmartStart error #45 means? I cannot get past it.

Re: SmartStart
When installing 4.90 and 4.80 a lockup can occur during the second hardware detection with an error 45 or 57. This is due to a problem in the way smart start detects the hardware and does not have to do with the hardware. (Happens in both assisted and manual) If this problem occurs step back to 4.70 or 4.60 and install smart start. After the o/s has been loaded then you can upgrade using the newest smart start. Also, if memory is maxed out, try removing a few dimms and starting over.

Re: SmartStart
Since you did not specify what OS is being installed by SmartStart or the installation method, we can not determine the exact cause of the error message your are reporting
See these Compaq service advisories related to SmarStart lockup installation problems.
