Smartstart 8.20, Server 2003 and p410 controller problems

I'm setting up a brand new ML350 G6 server and am installing server 2003 (compatibility reasons). So far I've installed the p410 controller and started off the Server 2003 VL CD and the SmartStart 8.20 CD.

The smartstart cd will proceed up to the server 2003 text install portion and blue screen just as windows is starting the setup process.

With the server 2003 CD I can start the install, choose the driver (via usb floppy and I think it's the right driver as I got it from HP's site), and start the setup process...except it doesn't find my array.

I've deleted/recreated the array twice now and even tried a different pcie slot. I was going to attempt to use the onboard 410i controller to see if that will help but I figured I'd ask here first. Has anyone run into this before?

Thanks

Additional info: If I use the onboard p410i controller I can setup a mirrored array and the server 2003 setup process will detect the drives.

Is it windows 2003 x32 or x64? are you loading the driver HP Proliant Smart Array SAS/SATA Controller Driver for Windows server 2003 Version 6.14.0.32? When you download it you need to extract it to a floppy and then press F6 when prompted during the installation to load it, otherwise will not recognize the array. If using the smart start make sure you have the right one depending on the OS x32 or x64 click on deploy server and follow the instructions

Just in case this is the driver for x32 bit:

Re: Smartstart 8.20, Server 2003 and p410 controller problems

I found the problem: it was related to the CD. i was using the original VL Server 2003 CD. Once I slipstreamed SP2 into a new CD it installed correctly.

How do you find the RAID5 write performance of P410?
You seem the only one who has it on the forums..

Slipstreaming SP2 into the install disk worked great! Tech support did not even know this one. 1K points to the person with this solution.

This should be easier to find. The problem/solution applies to many other configurations.
