Solaris 8 Installation problems
I have reviewed all of the documentation available (in particular http://www.geocities.com/rlcomp_1999/solaris/index.html), but cannot get Solaris 8 to install on a DL380.
The DL380 has 2Gb RAM, single processor - I have followed Sun's install and also Richard Blacks instructions but the installation fails with either an NMI or segmentation fault when it loads 'install_begin'.
I have tried to install a second processor which I thought have help as I have seen on other platforms the SMP support is somewhat flakey.
Any ideas?
Regards
Eden

Re: Solaris 8 Installation problems
Did you perform the Solaris 8 install using the Compaq drivers disks from this web address?
http://www5.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/9248.html
Also did you try editing the Solaris DCA boot disk as described in this web page.
http://www.geocities.com/rlcomp_1999/solaris/solaris8dca.html
Try removing some of the RAM from the system. Then perform the Solaris OS install. We have seen problems with Unix OS installs when the system is loaded with more than 1 GB of RAM. You can add the additional memory after the OS is installed.
If you are still unable to install the OS, please provide a detailed list of the exact steps you performed and at what point the OS install fails.
