Spare Drive on RAID 5 Configuraton
I just recently purchased a DL 380 G3 Server which has 6 drive slots. I populated all the slots with 36.5 GIG SCSI 15K drives. I left one drive as a spare. Does the spare stay constantly lit nad running on the server, or will it remain down until the RAID controller needs to use it. Please Help?

Re: Spare Drive on RAID 5 Configuraton
I believe it remains down until needed.
LED indicators
Off Off Off
OK to replace the drive online if a predictive failure alert is received and the drive is attached to an array
controller.
The drive is not configured as part of an array.
-Or-
If this drive is part of an array, then a powered-on
controller is not accessing the drive.
-Or-
The drive is configured as an online spare.

Re: Spare Drive on RAID 5 Configuraton
Thanks! My drive is configured as an online spare! I just wanted to make sure that my system will be ready if one of the other drives does fail
Thanks!
Thanks!
