Hi Manoj,

May I know the reason for swapping the CPU's. You can swap the CPU's without any issues but the system performance may vary. Wat is the os?

we just want to upgrade one of our servers without rebuild, so we are going to put more memory and shift from 3 cpu to 4 cpu with 2mb cache

Re: Swap CPU between Proliant 5500 & 7000

Hi Manoj,

Here are the spare part numbers for the Proliant 7000 and the Proliant 5500 Xeon models.

Proliant 7000
=============
Processor with 2-MB Cache and Heatpipe, 500-MHz PIII Xeon (Spare Part=122219-001)

Processor Power Module Board (Spare Part=312257-001)

Proliant 5500
=============
500 MHz 2MB L2 Cache Pentium III Xeon Processor with Heatsink (Spare Part =122637-001)

Processor Power Module (PII/III) (Spare Part=328701-001)

I'm not sure if the heatsink shape and size is the only difference on the CPU side but the Processor Power Modules are certainly different.

I would warn against swapping these components in case of permanent damage.

Brian
