Switch disks to new server..
Is it possible to switch the disks from a HP DL 380 G2 server to a DL 380 G3 server and expect it to run ok ?
System running on it is Windows 2000. The dl 380 G2 is probably no longer ok. ( black screen).
But we have a empty dl 380 g3.

Re: Switch disks to new server..
You should be fine, the two models use the 5i SCSI controller. Just place the disks in the same slots to minimize issues with the array being recognized.
As with any switch-over, it's good to have backups, and have a copy of the SmartStart disk handy to snag the new drivers. The G3 should have drivers on version 7.4 or 7.91 of the SmartStart, at least enough to get you working to grab the latest drivers from HP.

Re: Switch disks to new server..
I've done this with a DL360.
I believe the hardware is very similarto the 380. And if I remember correctly the only thing that was not working were the gigabit nic's. (The G2 has no gigabit)
