System Power Fault Detected (XR: 20 00 MID: FF 3D 9C 31 F8 F0 00 0E 0E 00 40 3F 04 04 00 00 96 00 F0

Hello,
I have a Hp ProLiant DL360e Gen8, and out of nowhere it turns off and in the Integrated Management Log this error appears:

System Power Fault Detected (XR: 20 00 MID: FF 3D 9C 31 F8 F0 00 0E 0E 00 40 3F 04 04 00 00 96 00 F0 0F F0 43 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00)

Can anyone have any idea on what may be causing the error.

Thank you

"power fault" means that something on your mainboard, that has to to with the distribution or conversion of electric power has failed. Maybe a short circuit somewhere or a fuse blown (electronic fuses, not replaceable)

It is also possible that a replacable unit like PCIe cards, memory or CPU has failed. As a first step, remove all removable items from your board. Leave only the absolute minimum installed like one CPU and one RAM, also remove one power supply if you have two.
If the problem persists, swap the parts.... install the other CPU in socket 1, install another Ram module, exchange the power supply.

If that all does not help, the problem is on the mainboard itself. You will need a new one.... sorry

Hi Toks23,

This could be the issue is with system board .Better to log a support case with HPE for further investigation including log analysis.

After doing a huge amount of digging into this, the "XR: 20 00" appears to refer to the SAS backplane having power issues. To check this, unplug the power to the backplane AT THE BACKPLANE (not at the motherboard), fully power cycle the server so the ILO resets, and then the machine SHOULD turn on. Obviously the backplane will not work, as it has no power, but now you know it's not a motherboard/power supply issue!

This error seems to be the same for the entire G8 range, even microservers.  It would have been nice for HP to actually SAY this 8-(
