Hi,
I have installed windows 2000 server (SP4) on a Proliant ML370 G3 Server with 2 Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz.
When I go to Task Manager on the Performance Tab I'm really surprised because I saw 4 CPU usage window instead of 2.
Do you know why?
Is there any way to correct that?
Thanks in advance
Regards
CARLOS

SolutionMost likely you have Hyperthreading enabled on the CPUs. This is the default configuration on Proliant ML370 G3 and a few newer ones too. Intel Hyperthreading in very brief represents one CPU into two logical CPUs to the operating system in your case Win2k Server. As you have two physical CPUs (both hyperthreaded) hence you see (2*2)4 CPUs in the task manager. This is not a problem, in fact Win2kServer is capable of symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), hence it will make good use of this excellent feature thus may giving a boost to your server performance.
You could enable or disable the Hyperthreading option by pressing "F9" for RBSU during system boot up. YOu should see an option for it there.
Let me know if you need more information on Hyperthreading and I could forward you some real good articles from Intel on Hyperthreading.
Hope this solves your problem:)
P.S.Don't forget to assign points:))

Re: Task manager shows 4 instead 2 processors
A few great articles which clearly explain Intel Hyperthreading here:
http://www.intel.com/technology/hyperthread/
On the right hand side, look into "White Papers". You would probably find more than you need.
Let me know if you have any problems:)
Have fun reading.

Re: Task manager shows 4 instead 2 processors
This is because the processors are hyper-threading processors.. emulates 2 as 4 proc..
