Testing event notification

Is there a way to test the notifications from within the software? Sine I have my servers colocated, I would like to be able to do this without having the tech staff involved.

Yes,
go to the system management hoempage on one of your servers, https:\\servername:2381

login
goto the settings tab
click on snmp and agent settings
click the send test trap button on the left.

Re: Testing event notification

I have the the System Management Homepage version 2.1.0.121 installed, but I don't see any Send Test Trap options under settings.

Re: Testing event notification

As Michael mentioned, either via the SMH or alternatively via Control Panel, HP Management Agents , SNMP settings, use the Send Test Trap button.

I checked on SMH V 2.1.2.127 on a Proliant running w2k3 and it has the "Send Test Trap" is available their as explained, maybe update your agents and SMH.

If your SMTP host is properly configured, you will get this kind of email message:

--------------------------------------------
The system has detected the following event:

SNMP Trap: 11003
Date time: 05/04/2006 08:41:08 AM
Computer: xxxxx
Source: Foundation Agents
Type: Informational
Category: (4)

Description: A 'Generic Trap' provides a mechanism for sending a trap with all information embedded in the trap text.

Re: Testing event notification

I updated SMH to 2.1.5.146B, but I still don't see the option to send a test trap. I must have something configured incorrectly, but not sure what it might be.

However, I found the option in the control panel and it worked fine -- thanks!!

I really appreciate the help.
