The best dual Xeon cpu a ML350p Gen 8 can support?
I have a ML350p Gen 8 currently running a pair of Xeon E5-2609 0 @ 2.40GHz.
E5-2609 - 4 cores. No hyperthreading. Base frequency of 2.4GHz.
I am looking to upgrade CPUs and increase number of cores and base frequency. I found the Xeon E5-2640 v2 on eBay. It's 8 cores, hyperthreading enabled, base frequency of 2.0GHz with boost frequency up to 2.5GHz. Will the ML350p Gen 8 take a E5-2640 v2? If not, what's the best CPU (in terms of cores and basefrequency) I can buy to upgrade?

Hi,
Please refer to the Server QuickSpecs for upgradability options.

Re: The best dual Xeon cpu a ML350p Gen 8 can support?
@Suman_1978 thanks for the reply. According to the document you shared, I should be able to upgrade to the Xeon E5-2640. Going to stick with v1 as v2 while having more cores, has a slower core frequency and that's more important to me. My current heatsinks are passive (no fans) can I reuse the exact same hintsinks without upgrading to active cooling?
