Timeouts when switching teamed (fault tolerant) NICs

We are running a DL380 G2 with a 7131 GB Ethernet NIC teamed together with one of the onboard 3163 NICs, support pack 5.40 is installed, W2K SP2. Teaming mode is smart switch, with the 7131 as the primary NIC. When you pull out the cable from the 7131, teaming switches to the other NIC without any problems, but when you reinsert the cable, the teaming software shows the link being restored on the 7131 (the symbol shows the cable being reinserted and the 7131 once again as the active card), but the actual link is only restored after several seconds (a ping from another machine gets about 15-20 timeouts after reinserting the cable before a reply comes up). As this machine is only a test machine at the moment, we fiddled around with the drivers. When the original Intel drivers (from www.intel.com) and the Intel teaming software are used, this problem does NOT occur, there are NO timeouts after reinserting the 7131 cable. The Intel drivers for the GB Ethernet card are several months newer than the Compaq ones (I suspect it is a driver problem with the card not getting a connect quick enough). Are there any newer drivers available or is there another solution?
