Tranportation of hdd from raid 5 configured ml350g5

Our customer wants to transport 3 x 500gb hdd (with raid 5 implemented ) from a ml350g5 server from a different country to a new server. my question is can these hdd be integrated on a different server of similar confiuration or the latest ml350g6 without any data loss. if yes how ?

Hello,

What kind of info are on these disks. There might be a problem if you have windows installed and start it up with different HW. In general, always have a backup.

the array info is saved both on disks and controller, so if you plug them into a server with same config its not a problem.

However, you should ALWAYS have a backup when doing these things.
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is that little extra.

In a worst case scenario, if the server system & controller are not transportable, the disk contains windows and other data, how does one acess the data independent of the RAID ..

hi,

backup your data, and make a image of your system, before transfer to other location,
but i think windows will no so hape when he will start on other HW ( machine ).

I think it will not working. The data could be accessed only on the primary installed HW or, on the same HW RAID controller.
