UPS for Proliant 2500

Looking at a APC Smart UPS for my server.
I wish to have the server shut down safely if the power is off for longer than the UPS can run and start up when power comes back on. Is this possible with the Proliant 2500 and a APC UPS?
Any advice would be helpful

Opps! could't see how to modify my question.. UPS I was considering looking at is APC Smart 1000 Net.
