USB Key Utility for Running Firmware Maintenance CD Failed to Boot

I have created a bootable USB key (v1.0.0.0, 6/1/2006) and placed the Firmware Maintenance CD v8.20 on it, following the instructions given on creating the USB key and loading the CD image to it.
I intend to use it on a Proliant DL185 G5.
However, when I tried to boot into it, I got an error message on X server:
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
See the attached screen shot for the complete error message.
Any suggestion and/or fix for this problem?

Re: USB Key Utility for Running Firmware Maintenance CD Failed to Boot

hi
the point is using CDROM or USB DL185 g5 does not support Fimrware CD

that's only for 300 - 500 - 700 Series Servers 100 Series must be updated manually

Firmware CD includes update for System ROm for example for 300 - 500 - 700 Series but it does not include 100 Series

so that CD or USB you created is not intend for that server

Follow-up question:
If the maintenance CD does not support the DL100 series and the firmware needs to be upgraded manually, what's the procedure to do it manually? I hope there is a doc or a thread in the forum that outlines the steps on how to perform the manual upgrade.
Thanks,

Re: USB Key Utility for Running Firmware Maintenance CD Failed to Boot

hi

the most important firmware for 100 are

- System ROM (can be offline of online)
- Controller (in case a HBA - Smart array controller can be online too)
- lights out 100 - only offline
- NICs - online too

so you can go to this page and get them and follow procedure to do it

Re: USB Key Utility for Running Firmware Maintenance CD Failed to Boot

Actually I was trying to upgrade the firmware on one of the hard drives on the server from HPG1 to HPG2. The HP field technician replaced the HD but the model # and firmware level is different from the rest of the HDs on the server.
New HD: ATA GB0250C8045, FW: HPG2
Rest of the HDs on the server: GB0250EAFJF, FW: HPG1.
This mismatch in model and FW caused a degradation of performance of the server.
I found the SW to flash the drive to HPG2 (cp009506.exe, available at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=420055&swItem=MTX-937a2a7fc5dc48d2ab84b1e63b&mode=3) but it's for model GB0250C8045 only. Does anybody know a version for drive model GB0250EAFJF?
p.s. I tried cp009506.exe on my DL185--it didn't upgrade the rest of the HDs on the server.
