USB for Proliant 850R

I need to add USB capability to a PL-850R running Win2000Pro (the UPS needs USB - no serial cable available for shutdown software). I have tried adding a USB 1.0 card (the system config utility recognizes it as a PCI Card) but shortly after the system boots and loads the OS I get a blue screen with error message "Hardware failure" - removing the card allowed the server to boot. Are there any known USB cards that work with PL-850R?

Re: USB for Proliant 850R

Hi,

As per the server configuration the server is having :
32-bit/33MHz PCI Slots (3)
As there are no such card support information for USB on server, but check for caqrd specification then go ahead.

Re: USB for Proliant 850R

hi dennis

you can use any usb card that comes with a windows 2000 driver.

all your slots are 5 volt keyed - so you have the maximum choice. there are virtually no 3 volt only usb cards.

the pci controller does not care what function the card has (usb, nic, scsi).

so you simply cannot make a mistake. hw ressource conflicts are very seldom.
