Un recoverable Read error from RAID 1 Rebuild
Hello,
I wanted to know if there is a way to force a rebuild of a RAID 1 array even if there are read errors from the source disk? Now when I try a rebuild it fails at 6% and I get a "Recovery of logical drive was aborted while rebuilding physical drive...due to an unrecoverable read error" see attachment.
This is a Cisco CallManager server and it is running Windows 2000 Server. It is DL380 server with a Smart Array 6i SCSI Controller.
Thanks
Eric

Re: Un recoverable Read error from RAID 1 Rebuild
hi
might be another faulty HDD is causing the rebuild process my recommendation if you can post the ADU report?
the only thing I can imagine you can try is
- update your controller firmware
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem=MTX-33e13536bd334bb4a7d80289eeтМй=en&cc=us&mode=3&
- get a smartstart CD (SSCD)
power off your server
remove all your HDDs
run SSCD
use the erase utility
power off your server
reinsert HDDs (same order)
insert the one you replaced when server is up again to try to force the rebuild
try and let us know
regards

Re: Un recoverable Read error from RAID 1 Rebuild
Here is the ADU report.
I did find that the other HDD is faulty, even if the fault light is not on and the system does run with the faulty HDD. So now the server is running with a single HDD and it is running off the bad one.
I will see if I can try your recommandation and will let you know.
